Gregory Benford
"Gregory Benford was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1941. He studied physics at the University of Oklahoma and the University of California, San Diego, attaining his Ph.D. in 1967. He is a professor of plasma physics and astrophysics at the University of California, Irvine; he has been a visiting professor at several institutions and an advisor to NASA. For many years, he wrote a nonfiction column for The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. "(Website)
