Kind Hearts is based on Frush's personal experience working within retirement communities and numerous interviews he had with elderly people. The book reflects a variety of lessons in self-esteem, and delivers a message of practical inspiration.

Frush has worked in the psychological aspects of elderly care for over 40 years. He teaches at Spring Hill College, where he co-founded the Gerontology Certificate Program, and at the University of South Alabama. He lives with his wife in Daphne.
