"Jennifer Greer is a certified Master Gardener and accomplished journalist. She reports on gardening, forestry and the environment for various publications. She has contributed to books on annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables for the Southern Living Gardening Guides. She is the author of Alabama Gardener’s Guide published by Cool Springs Press, and Alabama Gardens Great & Small A Guided Tour, which she self-published with the co-authors. An honors graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Journalism, Jennifer has received several awards throughout her career. These include: winner of the 1992 first place award for Best Editorial from the National Federation of Press Women; first place news and feature writing awards from the Maryland - D.C. and the Alabama Press Associations. Jennifer and her husband, forester Robert Gandy, live and work on 25 acres outside of Harpersville, Alabama. In their free time, they tend flower, herb, and vegetable gardens, plus a small fruit orchard. They also share an interest in native plants and preserving sensitive habitat around the creek and wetlands on their property. Robert and Jennifer both have international development experience and both are fluent in Spanish. They served 2 years in Peace Corps/ Costa Rica where Robert worked in forestry and Jennifer worked in adult education. They spent 6 months in Panama where they were the first Peace Corp staff working to establish an office there after a 19 year absence. They then spent 8 months in Honduras where Robert worked on a forestry small enterprise development project and Jennifer worked with the English weekly, Honduras This Week.
