Native Alabama author Don Keith called on a lifetime of experiences in his first two novels The Forever Season and Wizard of the Wind, each A Wyatt Book for St. Martin’s Press. His own life closely parallels those of their primary characters. Academically, Keith was both a National Merit Scholar and Balfour Award winner as well as his school’s athletic honors recipient as a first-time all-state football selection. He turned down academic and athletic scholarship offers from other universities with the intention of playing football for the legendary Bear Bryant at the University of Alabama, but an injury ended his playing career. Keith went on to receive a degree in communications, specializing in film criticism and literature, then began a twenty-year career in broadcasting and journalism. Along the way, he became the only person to win Billboard Magazine’s Radio Personality of the Year Award in two different formats, country and contemporary. He was also the inaugural winner of the prestigious Hector Award from Troy State University for innovation in broadcast journalism, as well as numerous Associated Press and United Press International awards for journalism excellence. The Forever Season, Keith’s debut novel, was met with critical acclaim and commercial success. It was named 1997 "Fiction Award" winner by the Alabama Library Association, joining such illustrious company as works by Harper Lee, Walker Percy, and Jesse Hill Ford. The second novel, Wizard of the Wind, set in the world of broadcasting, also drew very positive reviews. The Scripps-Howard News Syndicate praised Keith’s "practiced ear for the sound of the South," and dubbed the book "a classic rags to riches story." Booklist called the novel "a compelling look at the personal costs of a seductive business." Most recently, Keith has co-authored series of young adult novels set in American stock car racing. The Rolling Thunder Stock Car Racing Series, published by Tor Books, will have eight titles in print by early 2001. His as yet unpublished manuscript The Spin has recently been optioned as a potential motion picture. Since 1990, Don Keith has worked with a Birmingham-based company which develops and markets software for the media. (The Author) Bibliography: Author's Website: Last Updated:
