Gerald W. Morton

Gerald W. Morton has taught language and literature for the past twenty-five years, spending the last twenty of those at Auburn University Montgomery in Montgomery, Alabama, where he holds the title Distinguished Research Professor. He holds an undergraduate degree in English from Emory & Henry college, and graduate degrees from Georgia Southern College and the University of Tennessee.

Morton's research and teaching specialties are Renaissance English literature, dramatic literature, and mythology. He also teaches courses in creative writing. The author of several academic books, Morton published a business writing text with Harcourt Brace, a volume on professional wrestling with the Popular Press at bowling Green State University, and recently a fantasy novel entitled The Sword of Two Kings with a regional publisher in Montgomery, Alabama. He has published numerous academic articles, works on Shakespeare for children, and short stories in a variety of journals.  

A native of North Carolina, Morton plans to return to the Appalachian Mountains after his retirement to spend his life farming and writing. He  has two daughters, Katherine and Kimberly, and two grandchildren, Megan and Kelsey. His daughter Katherine has been the source of many of the best ideas to work themselves into Morton's writing.

Current projects include a completed manuscript entitled Ten Life Lessons from Western Mythology, a self-help, New Age, style book which presents mythology for a lay reader. He is also working on a romance novel set in the English Civil War and a memoir based on his surviving a massive heart attack in May 2001. (The Author)
